It's certainly a September to remember as our schools are finally open and ready to educate IN PERSON! At our monthly JSEF meeting in August, Superintendent Charles Miller, reported to us the preparations the district has made to re-open, which not only address the students physically in preventing the spread of Covid (air purifiers in every classroom, creating outdoor cafeterias at each of the schools and space for outdoor dining at lunchtime, wearing masks, etc) BUT ALSO addressing the kids’ socio-emotional health as they emerge from lockdown.
The District is adopting a “whole child design” approach to dealing with the kids emotional health and well being as they re-enter the classroom. Safety and belonging with an emphasis on connectedness and inclusion are the focus as kids re-acclimate to attending brick and mortar school in person. This sounds great, kudos to our school administrators for holding space for well being and encouraging a sense of belonging for children in our schools.
Charles Miller informed us that there is a direct correlation between incidents of infection of Covid in the community to the appearance of the virus in students and staff at school, so the schools are not a hot bed of Covid activity, the community is!
And if you are a member of the community and are curious about the construction of the new school and remodeling of the old school, or if you want to take a moment to say good bye to the old Carquinez Middle School before it is demolished, there is talk of a school tour for the curious in March of 2022. Stay tuned for that!
We’d like to thank C&H Sugar Factory for their recent $3,000 donation to the John Swett Education Foundation. Sweet!
